Grey Headed Bush Shrike Vs Boomslang

Whilst driving slowly along one of the loop dirt roads in the Kruger National Park, being kept thoroughly amused by a Yellow Billed Hornbill that was hopping from spot to spot as it was picking up lil stones & posing for the camera, and giving us wierd looks! As we came around the corner,we noticed a bright flash of green & orange and a commotion going on ahead of us, only to discover that we had just ended up being in the right place at the time!
As we glanced up at this tree, trying to see what the hell the commotion was all about,we watched in amazement as we realised that a grey-headed bush-shrike was actually taking on a snake and attacking it to death - Literally.
Totally confused as to what snake this was,it was besides the point, but seeing this was INCREDIBLE!

So enjoy this Grey headed Bush Shrike Attacking a Boomsalng.

Kruger national park

Recently we decided to take our very first trip to the KRUGER NATIONAL PARK earlier this August.Although it was only for a week,we tried to spend as much time driving around, spotting birds, locating animals & taking time to view the beautiful scenery this park has to offer.

Over packing the car as usual, leaving Durban early Saturday morning,we headed north towards Mkhuze(our first pitstop),With only Pied Crows in sight,I really could not believe that we never saw anything else!!!We eventually arrived at the South African border post which went quite pleasantly but not so much on the other side with no one being very helpful.Anyways, driving through Swaziland was very new to us & not much roads signs to lead us to our destination!Along the way,we still had Pied Crows in sight and so many Lilac Breasted Rollers which was astounding to see their Vibrant plumage but after the 30th one,the novelty wore off & it became part of the game "oh look, there's another one & another..." with a few interruptions from the Glossy Starling :)

Our Week long Holiday were spent camping at the Berg En Dal & Skukuza Rest camps,While our travels lead us towards the other main camps being Crocodile Bridge,Pretoriuskop & Lower Sabie rest camps.During this dry season we were so fortunate to have seen so many animals & capture.

To witness 2 male lions eating a Buffalo that was killed the night before by 5 male lions along the roadside was remarkable but unfortunately we were not so lucky to see this kill in action.
Another great incident was watching a Grey Headed Bush Shrike Attacking & killing a Boomslang!
Watching an entourage of Yellow Billed Egrets flying in like aeroplanes towards the dam at Berg En Dal followed by one buffalo, then two Buffalo then by three, four & before you know it thirteen!

All in all,we identified 128 birds,loads of Elephants & Buffalo,few Wildebeest,White Rhino's,some Hyena's & Lions,both Jackals,Vervet Monkeys & Baboons,Thick-Tailed Bushbaby,Door Mouse &Dwarf Mongooses.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK is truely unique & magical, although our stay was short lived, this just gives us more reason to travel back in the different seasons & go to all the other places it has to offer.

Introduction

Well I'm not sure how to do all of this BLOGGING business!I have not put too much thought into doing all of this but I honestly feel like I need express Our Adventures.I want to try & be able to create awareness & support just the things that we find interesting.

Together with my beautiful sidekick girlfriend,we will share our stories on our travels.
We are both South Africans, living in this rainbow nation always crossing paths with different people along the way.Its not only the people that we cross paths with but also the animals, birds & insects etc that people go by & often don't notice.

We are both very much into WILDLIFE & often go to game reserves, parks etc to hike & photograph animals, birds & spectacular scenery that our country has to offer.
It so happens to be that we are often so lucky when it comes to seeing rare encounters with animals & we try to capture them as best as we can, letting nature do what nature intends without interfering often getting caught in the middle which is the best place to be plus the scariest of times!
All our photographs & footage are raw & unedited as i prefer to share them with you to try capture our moments in your minds.

I would just like thank you for viewing this blog & remember that in everyone, there is a free spirit that can change something in this world!
Follow your dreams & live life as best & happily as you can!
Go Green & make a difference.
