Kruger national park

Recently we decided to take our very first trip to the KRUGER NATIONAL PARK earlier this August.Although it was only for a week,we tried to spend as much time driving around, spotting birds, locating animals & taking time to view the beautiful scenery this park has to offer.

Over packing the car as usual, leaving Durban early Saturday morning,we headed north towards Mkhuze(our first pitstop),With only Pied Crows in sight,I really could not believe that we never saw anything else!!!We eventually arrived at the South African border post which went quite pleasantly but not so much on the other side with no one being very helpful.Anyways, driving through Swaziland was very new to us & not much roads signs to lead us to our destination!Along the way,we still had Pied Crows in sight and so many Lilac Breasted Rollers which was astounding to see their Vibrant plumage but after the 30th one,the novelty wore off & it became part of the game "oh look, there's another one & another..." with a few interruptions from the Glossy Starling :)

Our Week long Holiday were spent camping at the Berg En Dal & Skukuza Rest camps,While our travels lead us towards the other main camps being Crocodile Bridge,Pretoriuskop & Lower Sabie rest camps.During this dry season we were so fortunate to have seen so many animals & capture.

To witness 2 male lions eating a Buffalo that was killed the night before by 5 male lions along the roadside was remarkable but unfortunately we were not so lucky to see this kill in action.
Another great incident was watching a Grey Headed Bush Shrike Attacking & killing a Boomslang!
Watching an entourage of Yellow Billed Egrets flying in like aeroplanes towards the dam at Berg En Dal followed by one buffalo, then two Buffalo then by three, four & before you know it thirteen!

All in all,we identified 128 birds,loads of Elephants & Buffalo,few Wildebeest,White Rhino's,some Hyena's & Lions,both Jackals,Vervet Monkeys & Baboons,Thick-Tailed Bushbaby,Door Mouse &Dwarf Mongooses.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK is truely unique & magical, although our stay was short lived, this just gives us more reason to travel back in the different seasons & go to all the other places it has to offer.
